Invader Zim

One of my favorite shows is Invader Zim.  My favorite character is a little silver and blue robot called Gir. Here are some of Gir's favorite sayings.

Animal of the Week

This weeks animal is the Platypus . the Platypus i
s the only member of the mammal family Ornithorhynchidae.
This unique animal has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. The male platypus's body is about 50 - 60 centimeters long and the female is about 40 - 50 centimeters long.  An adult male platypus weighs about 2 kilograms and a female platypus weighs about .9 kilograms. The outer hair is a dark brown with yellowish hair on its underside.
Platypus's diet consists of yabbies(various insect larvae), shrimp, crayfish, earth worms, meal worms, May flies, dragonflies, mussels, trout eggs, frog eggs, tadpoles, small frogs and fish.  The platypus locates its prey underwater by sensing the electric current created by the prey's muscle movements, this is why the platypus is such an excellent hunter at night or in murky water.
The platypus is generally a solitary animal with its own specific home range in which it feeds and lives. The platypus is shy and wary.  It tends to be a nocturnal creature and generally only leaves its burrow in the early morning and evening.
The platypus sleeps in a burrow for up to 17 hours a day.  The average camping burrow is 1 - 3 meters longs with the entrance hidden underwater or just above the water level.  An adult platypus uses its long claws to dig through the soft river banks.  It is calculated that a platypus can dig one meter of tunnel in two hours.  Grooming of the fur is very important and is done in the water as well as on the land.

The platypus is found in all freshwater creeks, rivers, and lakes of eastern Australia from the Cooktown area in the north to Tasmania in the south.  It can be found in 26 of 31 river systems in Victoria.  Platypuses like long pools with solid angled banks, slow flowing water, pool depths of one to two meters, plenty of aquatic vegetation, and a good quantity of  water-dwelling  invertebrates.
The platypus is protected by law throughout Australia.  Even though it is common in Australia, it is considered vulnerable due to the continuing loss of its natural habitat due to damming, drainage, and pollution.
Fun Fact: When the English came to Australia to put prisoners into exile they found the platypus and thought somebody had sewn on a ducks feet and bill to a beavers body.

Hairspray

Hairspray the movie rocks this world! I give it a two thumbs up.  It shows that we made the right choice to say no to segregation! In my opinion it is a disappointment that we chose to treat people with disrespect just because the color of their skin.

Animal of the Week

The animal of the week is the Meerkat.
The meerkat is a small mamal that stands no taller than 12 inches. It lives in the Kalahari Desert, which in the afternoon at 115 degrease F it is no fun for a 2lb meerkat. The Kalahari Desert is located in Southern Africa which is in the countries of Nambia and Botzwanna .
There about 40 meerkats to a clan. A typical day begins in the morning, they wake up bright and early tending to the house(burrow) chores, which means making the beds and cleaning up the living room. After the morning chores the dominant female and male take the group out foraging for food. A meerkats diet consists of scorpions, toads, millipedes, lizards, etc. They don't need to get water because they get their water from the food the eat. When foraging it is very dangerous if they have pups with them because they need to be on the look out constantly for predators like hawks, owls, and snakes.  Now, if the pups are too little to go foraging they stay with the baby sitters which are usually the older brothers and sisters of the dominant female. At the end of the day the meerkats go down into the burrows and snuggle together for a warm nights sleep.

Fun Fact: Did you know that a meerkat loses 5% of its body weight while asleep each night?  That's why they need to forage and snack all day.

tawneypaw

This is Tawneypaw she is my icon for what I am right now. She is totally cool and nobody tells her what to do. She gets her name Tawneypaw because she is tawney colored. I think she is some sort of fox but I am not quite sure what she is for the moment, but all you need to know is that her name is Tawneypaw , and she is representing me for the next couple of weeks.
